A Word or Two from your Chorus Director
some reminders from this past coaching weekend
It all starts with
Posture, Space, Air
Body alignment
- align ears with shoulder
- open rip cage, shoulders slightly back and arms hang relaxed
- shoulders aligned with hips and ankles, knees slightly bend
- most body weight is on the balls of your feet
- the jaw is loose, without tension
Breathing
- through the nose, "snuff breath", keeps tension away from the vocal chords
- push out all the air
- lift rib cage, keep rib cage lifted when exhaling, this helps with
breath support, body alignment and on time quick breath
- place hand between sternum (braline) and belly button
this helps to keep the rib cage up and to remind you to push out all the air
moving your body will keep the tension away from the vocal cords,
tension will move to the biggest muscle
that is why you need to keep your body in motion
- a breath is the beginning of a phrase
- keep your mouth open when taking a breath
Space ( the final frontier)
- remember the wh
isker spot, to open the resonating areas
- keep your jaw loose but not over extended, this will also help with
a rich round resonance ringing note
- lifted pallet
Other things to remember
- sing forward into your mask, do not swallow the sound
- lower notes need less space
- higer notes need more space
- push the sound up and out like a basketball when singing high
- move your sound with air do not grip it with muscle powe
- always push to the end of the phrase
- keep the sound smooth do not close it down
Treasurer
- All monies, dues and receipts will go to Cheryl
until further notice
- Look for the purple Treasure folder and place checks and requests in it
- request monies or turn monies in, not counting dues, please use proper form
- please use memo space on your check, your treasurer will love you !
